CROSS COUNTRY SKIING AND SNOWSHOEING AT ELK RIVER TOURING CENTER Elk River Touring Center offers Cross Country Ski and Snowshoe rentals and lessons at the base of the mountain (approximately 20 minutes from the top of Snowshoe Mountain). Their expansive trail system offers something for beginners and experts alike. The center also offers guided Snowshoeing tours (reservations required). Cross country skiing and snowshoeing are dependent upon natural snowfall. Call or visit their website for current conditions.

WINTER ADVENTURE DINING TOURS It all starts when you hop into one of our 4-seat Polaris RZRs and hit the Cheat Mountain Ridge Trail that runs under towering Spruce forests. You'll cross exciting terrain and take in some amazing views that few Snowshoe guests get to see before reaching the Sunrise Backcountry Hut for a 3 course lunch or dinner.

At 4,848’ elevation, Snowshoe Mountain sits atop one of the highest points in West Virginia's Allegheny Mountains. From this perch, we overlook unmatched wilderness adventure in all directions. We’re a stone’s throw from five state parks, one national and two state forests, eight rivers with world class rafting, mountain biking, rock climbing, the Greenbank Observatory, scenic railroads and highways, covered bridges, Civil War battlefield monuments and much, much more. In fact, you’d be hard-pressed to fit the region's outdoor possibilities into a short weekend, so we invite you to use Snowshoe as base camp for your adventure--settle in here and plan a few day trips to experience all the action that Pocahontas County and the surrounding areas have to offer. Once you're here, you can visit the Depot in the Village to find your path to an exhilarating experience in the wild, wonderful mountains of West Virginia. BIKING ON THE GREENBRIER RIVER TRAIL The Greenbrier River Trail, the longest trail of its kind in West Virginia, is a 78-mile former railroad grade that's now used for hiking and biking. The northern trailhead is located in Cass, WV which is a short 20-minute drive from Snowshoe Mountain.

SCENIC LIFT RIDES Cheat Mountain and the towering Spruce forests that blanket the surrounding area are just as beautiful in green as they are under fresh power. And there's no better place to view it all than from our chair lifts where you're high enough to take in amazing panoramic views, and low enough to spot the unique flora and fauna that make up Snowshoe's complex ecosystem. In addition to White Tail Deer, Black Bear and the occasional Sasquatch, you could see relic from West Virginia's logging past and one of the greatest inventions of the industrial revolution, the Shay locomotive. With the right timing, you can spot steam rising from the next peak as the largest Shay still in existence travels from Cass Scenic Railroad to Bald Knob. Then, you can hop off the lift at Shaver's Lake where another world of summer adventure and relaxation await.
Autumn Breeze Farms
Welcome to Autumn Breeze Stables @ Snowshoe Mountain Resort. Autumn Breeze Stables offers guided Western Style Trail Riding in the West Virginia Mountains for travelers of all ages, beginner to advanced riders year round. You can saddle up for rides 1 to 4 hours, plus 30 minute lake rides for kids 8 and under, buggy rides, overnights with rustic camping in the Back Country Of Cheat Mountain, and one horse open sleigh rides when conditions permit. Our horses are well mannered, and eager to hit the trail. All riders will receive instruction about horses natural instincts, a demonstration on how to mount, start, stop , control, how to respond to any situation that may occur while on the trail. Our Horse 101 mounted instruction will teach the basic skills you’ll need to know to hit the trail with confidence . When getting off the beaten path riders can experience stream crossings, up and down hill, old log roads , forest trails, wetlands, scenic mountain top views, plus deer, coyote, bear, turkey and more. All rides take in rider comfort, and skill level prior to departure. Get ready to have some fun, make new friends, and horse around.
